West Coast Meter has been in business since the early 1950’s; providing the taxi industry with such equipment as taximeters, toplights and wiring harnesses.
Since the early 1980’s we have expanded to include data terminals, satellite tracking, security cameras, a variety of automotive accessories and two-way radio sales and service.
We have installed and continue to service several of the largest radio/data fleets throughout British Columbia – including the Metro Vancouver taxicab companies, and some of BC’s largest highways maintenance fleets.
We were involved from the outset, with the security cameras mandated for the taxicab industry and installed more than 800 units. In conjunction with this we continue to work with the Passenger Transportation Board (formerly The Motor Carrier Commission) and the various Law Enforcement Agencies throughout Metro Vancouver. We work with the Forensics and Video Units regarding the various aspects of image quality. We are members of the Taxi Camera Review Group working with the Passenger Transportation Board to review existing equipment issues, protocols, ident/forensics assessments and options for upgrades and replacements. We participated directly in the creation of the taxi camera protocol for the Vancouver Police Dept. which has since been adopted by all other local Law Enforcement Agencies. We are contracted by the various Law Enforcement Agencies in the Metro Vancouver area to assist in accessing the camera images during investigations.
- We work in direct conjunction with The City of Vancouver to ensure the accuracy of taximeters.
- We provide upfitting of vehicles for the Ministry of Transportation and Highways, specifically installation of DMI (Distance Measurement Instruments), as well as for the Vancouver Police Dept. and various motion picture production companies.
Annually, we upfit in excess of 600 vehicles. Over the last several years as the automotive industry has continued to evolve, we have had the opportunity to upfit thousands of Hybrid vehicles.
